UX DESIGN JOB | CAREER SWITCH | TIPS | LEARNING | APPLICATION PROCESS | CV | PORTFOLIO | INTERVIEW | TEST TASKS | USP | SALARY | FREELANCING

As an economist, I had 22 years of commercial (and investment) banking, strategy, and consulting background when I found UX design. After UX training, I started to build a portfolio and apply for jobs intermittently, with longer breaks in between. I gradually experienced and understood what the market thinks of me. I would like to share my experiences and tips. Some of these might be useful for juniors starting their career in UX design.

COOKIE CONSENT | PRIVACY | CAR BRANDS

Landing experience became 'noisy' in recent years. Sports car brands offer different solutions for cookie consent. The handling of cookies will be completely affected by the new, but long-expected ePrivacy Regulation which may come into force in 2022. Till then the varied solutions remain, but everything can be designed in a fairer way balancing better between the user's rights and the business needs.

PROBLEM DEFINITION | UX DESIGN

In Medium you find 58K stories for UX design, 10.5K for prototyping and 13 for problem definition, 51 for statement and 51 for framing. You might think because the problem definition is simple. This is not always the case as Illustrated by the recently launched cycling feature of Google Maps in Hungary.

TOOLBOX | UX DESIGN | UI DESIGN | DOUBLE DIAMOND | FROM PROBLEM TO HIFI PROTOTYPE & PRESENTATION

900 tools to choose from in an end-to-end UX design process from problem to the presentation of a high fidelity prototype and product concept. My goal was to collect the most frequently mentioned tools in one place according to the phases and important elements of the double diamond methodology.

CASE STUDY | UX RESEARCH | MOBILE APP | TEENS | UX METHODOLOGY

The 15 years-old teens that I researched for smartphone use habits in a UX design love project are the first reps of TikTok gen (use > FB). This generation needs more than ever things that capture their attention very intensively from the first second. They are only capable to maintain attention for short periods. Meanwhile, they want to acquire knowledge while having fun. Takeaways from my UX research.

CASE STUDY | MOBILE BANKING APP | REDESIGN

Clients use this view in banking apps, scrolling to quickly check whether an expected sum is received or did they transferred the X amount to Y. Reducing 20 information to 8 in a simple 4-step process with language and UI adjusted made the screen more loveable.

COVID19 | DEATH RATES | PERFORMANCE

Countries in Europe, though seemingly made the same anti pandemic measures showed varied performance. Hungary is remarkably sticking out with its death rate. Have a quick look at these differences in performance. Do we learn from all this?

CASE STUDY | UX BEGINNERS | BROWSER ICON

The life of a novice UX designer is stressful because of the compulsion of portfolio building, having no idea how to get the first job, and whether it fits. Thus, always try to smuggle humour into your work. Feel free to experiment with unusual ideas. All these take your tension off a little bit between two projects.

UX IN THE ORGANIZATION | DESIGNER ATTRIBUTES

Perhaps the most straightforward expectation of a good product designer is to create a ’structured beauty’. It is vital to be able to think in systems, in a structure, because the direct beneficiaries of this are the developers and it can be measured in money.

UX STRATEGY | COVID19

The Covid19 induced ‘the next normal’ in the UX design industry includes: remote; public services and elderly people in focus with enormous potential and need for UX design-based solutions, and it fastened smarter, UX focused digital transformation backed by some remarkable trends.

BANKING | DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION | COVID19

36% of Hungarian banking customers have been forced to digitally adapt meaning that the number of branch-only customers has decreased by that figure. Beyond branches, they started to use call-centre, internet banking, and mobile banking. More remarkable that 16% have switched to digital-only channels.

PRIVATE EQUITY | VENTURE CAPITAL | COVID19

Most of the analysts now probably expect a pipe shape rebound with lasting realignment and adjustment in areas from the long list: more flexible business models, supply chain diversification, digitalization, cybersecurity just to name a few. How has the Covid19 shadowed the short-term outlook and how did affect the fundamentals of PE & VC? What was being reinforced, and what has been changed so far?
